I want a hippopotamus for Christmas!
I know I use the adjective "cute" a lot when I'm describing High Hopes stamps, but they just are! So, how about a cute hippo card today? *wink* As soon as I saw this hippo, it became one of my favorite stamps from the new release. But I have a confession, I had never heard of the song "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" before I saw the release stamps. Crissy enlightened me and sent a link to the song. It was recorded in '54 by Gayla Peavey, who was ten years old at the time You can listen to it here. hee hee Love it!
I chose some Wassail patterned paper from Basic Grey and colored my image in coordinating colors. I masked the hippo after coloring it and sprayed the wall behind it with a cream colored copic marker. Lots of stitching and buttons and a prima flower and leaves finish off my card.
Happy Stamping!
Niki

I absolutely adore this card! Your coloring is outstanding and I love the layout! My sil gave my son a Christmas card 2 years ago that played this song when you opened it...and he opened it A LOT! He found it again recently and opened it A LOT! I can't wait to use this stamps and make this card for both of them! It looks awesome on the Wassail paper! LOVE THIS!
I just love this card! It's great to see him come to life in color. Everytime I see the stamp, I sing the song...can't get it out of my head!!

Woo hoo, bring on the Christmas cards!
I love this, it's just fun and festive (and High Hopes stamps ARE cute!)
Oh the memories!!! I was 5 yrs old in 54 and had a Gayla Peavey record (all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth) Thought she was the greatest thing that ever came along - probably because she was just a kid too and that amazed me - only big people had records. Thx for jogging that old memory out of the recesses of my brain.

16. I love it, how adorable you've made this card! Your coloring always amazes me!!
This is one of my favorite silly Christmas songs. The Oklahoma City Zoo (our family's favorite zoo!)used the song in 1953 for a fundraiser to "buy a hippo for Gayla" to bring a hippo to the zoo.
TFS!!
I love this card, it's so great and your coloring is beautifull.
Oh my goodness, this is just adorable Niki! Love it!
